Weekly Reset #1 — Get Your Reps In

Published 3 months ago • 1 min read

👋 Hey there,

Welcome to Weekly Reset, an email newsletter where I share with you my reflections from the past week to give you one thought, tip and tool to improve your focus and creativity.

🗝️ Key Idea: “Get Your Reps In.”

I was listening to a past episode of The Ground Up Show, and they were discussing how “you have to do a bunch of shitty work before you will do good work. It’s about getting your reps in.”

We often don't do things for fear of them being bad, but if we change our mindset to "at the beginning it will be bad, we just need to work through the bad period," then it's much easier to get started.

The email is my shitty work, and me getting my reps in. If you have ideas for how to improve it or things you would like to see me discuss in the future, hit reply and let me know. I would love to hear from you.

🪄 Tool of the Week: SuperWhisper

This handy Mac app wraps OpenAI’s Whisper protocol into a convenient menu bar app for transcribing your speech. You can launch it with a single keystroke, speak to your Mac and everything you said will be transcribed and then pasted into your current app. The transcription happens locally on your machine, and doesn’t even require internet. I find it really handy for exploring ideas in Obsidian, writing an email, or creating JIRA tickets at work (which I hate doing). When using SuperWhisper I deliver much more context and detail than I would if I was typing everything by hand.

Let me know what you would like to see in this newsletter (You can reply directly to this email).

Have a great week!

Hey Friends, Welcome to this special Monday Edition of Weekly Reset, I hope you enjoy! I’ve been considering an alternative title for this newsletter of “Finding Focus”. What do you think? Is it an improvement over the current title? Let me know. Key Idea: Autodidact’s Paradox During this past week’s book club, I stumbled upon a new concept that I’m calling Autodidact’s Paradox. An autodidact is someone takes initiative to learn on their own through independent study. Someone that doesn’t...

Hey Friends, I hope the week was good to you. Key Idea: Quality Driven By Service This past week, I read Ryder Carroll’s 2023 Reflection. If you're not familiar with Ryder, he is the creator of the Bullet Journal. He said something that resonated with me deeply. I’ll quote it here: Because I think that my personal standard for quality is often driven by fear, not service. The narrative being that if I can’t show up perfectly, then I shouldn’t show up at all. That’s what keeps happening.” —...

Hey Friends, The clock has struck 8 a.m. on Sunday morning, and Week 5 of 2024 is officially in the books. I’m starting to feel like myself again, and this week the ENT gave me confidence that the pill I aspirated on the first of the year isn’t going to kill me. Now that that is in the rearview mirror, let’s start this week with a quote I love from Austin Kleon. It goes a little something like this: When the sun goes down and you look back on the day, go easy on yourself. A little...
